As you may have gathered from the last issue of Gauntlet, I believe that Tac:WWII is probably the most realistic set of C20th wargame rules on the market at present. Bearing that in mind, it will therefore be no surprise for me to tell you that this scenario book by Nick Murray ives up to the rules and can only be described as something that I can only wish that I had written myself. The meat of the book is taken up with 8 very interesting and stimulating scenarios, which are mainly based on historical incidents. Several scenarios can be linked to form 'episodic mini-campaigns'. Even if you don`t own Tac:WW2, the scenarios are pretty easy to convert to any rules which utilise platoon sized elements. However, the gravy comes in the form of campaign specific details provided by the author which will allow gamers to conjour up Winter War scenarios and not just encounters which happen to be between Russians and Finns. This is accomplished through weather and temperature generators, with rules for depth of snow, ice thickness, daylight hours and visibility. Of course, you can also expect the more usual detailed weapon, AFV and aircraft statistics (tailored to Tac:WW2 but useful nevertheless), together with Finnish and Soviet unit organisation (TOE`s) and a breakdown of typical of unit abilities. All in all, an excellent publication. Look out for others in the range. Available from Irregular Miniatures for £5 +P&P.
