15mm WWII Poles (1939)

Figure Review

by Eric Burgess

Several days ago I received two new packs of 15mm WWII Poles in the mail from Men-at-Arms hobby store. I was completely blown away by the figures I found in the package. I had ordered two packs of Polish infantry and two packs of heavy weapons. At first glance I was very pleased with the sculpting. Crisp and had very little flash. Next I was stunned by the variety in each pack. The infantry pack came with 12 different poses!!!

Let's get on with the details. There are currently two packs of Poles available.

39PI1: 1939 Polish Infantry w/ command

39PI2: 1939 Polish Heavy Weapons The infantry with command pack contains 50 figures for $14.50 US. As I mentioned there are 12 different poses in each pack. The best part is these figures are all action poses, unlike other companies that sell 15mm WWII figures. The quantity for each pose varies per pack. Here is a break down to the two packs I received.

The first number is the qty from pack #1 and second number is the qty from pack #2.

    Prone Firing 5 7
    Kneeling Firing 5 6
    Standing Firing 4 7
    Marching 3 4
    Throwing Grenades 7 5
    Advancing 7 6
    Loading Rifle (standing) 5 4
    Charging 4 4
    Commander Advancing 2 1
Cmdr Adv with Pistol 2 2
    Cmdr Reading Map 3 3
    Radio Man Kneeling 1 2

As you can see the variety is great and the quantities can fluctuate. All figures wear the Czapka field cap and back pack. The commanders do not have backpacks. These figures are very compatible with Old Glory's Command Decision line in both stature and sculpting quality. They are about 15mm from bottom of their foot to their eyes. They are made out of lead-free pewter.

Somebody finally realized how to package heavy weapons! They must have read my mind. No more 50 bazooka figures when I would never need more than 10. This Polish Heavy Weapons pack is fantastic. You get 4 Light Machine Gun teams (2 figures prone), 4 Heavy Machine Gun Teams (2 crew each, kneeling), 4 Anti-Tank Rifle Teams (2 figures prone), and 4 Mortars (3 crew each all kneeling)!!! What a bargain! All action poses, and no left over figures. This pack also sells for $14.50 US.

The HMG and Mortar must be assembled, but this should be no problem. All these figures are also in Czapka. (four edged field cap)

If you are tired of your early war Germans fighting only the French, run, don't walk, to your nearest phone and order these fine figures! I can't wait to start painting them.

Future packs I've been told will include. Polish Highland Division Polish Cavalry in Adrian helmet. Polish AFV (tanks, etc) This is very exciting for those of us that enjoy the early part of WWII.

Company Information: True North Miniatures PO Box 579, Merrickville Ontario, Canada, K0G-1N0 (613) 269-2557

In the US I bought mine from: Men-at-Arms 309 S. Westmore Avenue Lombard, Illinois 60148 (630) 889-9606
