Welcome to the 1st Issue

by Mark Hannam

"Hello!"

The Gauntlet pays no small homage to Hal Thlnglum's Midwest Wargamer's Association Newsletter (MWAN) and Donald Featherstone's late Wargamer's Newsletter. The journal is primarily aimed at the Independent, solo or self-reliant Wargamer, but hopes to exclude no-one.

I'm not going to make any great claims for this magazine, suffice to say that I will endeavour to ensure that It is as Interesting and stimulating a read as possible. This of course depends as much upon your collective Input as It does on mine.

Wargaming can be all things to all people, and The Gauntlet undoubtedly will be too. I should point out that this journal is NOT Lone Warrior 2, nor does It want to be. The Gauntlet will complement NEVER deliberately compete with other journals, I quote John Donne, "No man Is an Island, Intire of It selfe; everyman Is a peeve of the Continent, a port of the main; If a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe Is the lease".

I have enjoyed putting this magazine together and I hope that you enjoy it too.

Acknowledgements

Donald Featherstone, Hall Thinglum, David Barnes, Paul Wilklnson, Pat McGill, David Lanchester, Mark Bevis, Stephen Manley, Steve Turner, Mike Taylor, Suzan Pecyna and of course to my wife Heather.
