30mm WWG010:
German HMGs 2 tripod MG34, 36

Review by Russ Lockwood

Mark was kind enough to send a sample pack of six figures for review to MagWeb.com: all from WWG010: German HMGs 2 tripod MG34, 36. The figures were a pair of: firers, loaders, and supporters. Two MG bodies and two supports were included. Cost is £ 8.

All of them came well-formed and cleanly cast. It took me a second to remove a slight bit of flash between arm and chest of the firing figure, but otherwise, what you see in the accompanying photo is what you get.

It's difficult to measure how large they are, but if they are intended to go with the Fall of France figure (see FoF review), then figure on 28mm-30mm. Officially, they're 28mm says the company web site. Grabbing one of those ubiquitous MagWeb.com rulers, the figures measure approximately 23-24mm from soles of the feet to top of the helmet. An assortment of pouches, packs, and cannisters are nicely slung about the figures. They should paint up well.

I did have to do a bit of trial and error to line up the MG body, tripod support, and firer. The trick is to twist the firer slightly, then fit the support in last. Of course, if you leave the figure separate from the MG, then you won't have to worry about an exact match.

There's a good illustration of the MG42 (successor to the MG34) in Battle-Wire magazine showing the positioning of the tripod.

All told, another excellent effort from Crusader Miniatures. The quality remains excellent, the poses are appropriate, and as past experience dictates, they'll paint up well and look good on a tabletop.
