Crusader Miniatures30mm Norman FootReview by Russ Lockwood |
Mark sent five figure samples for review to MagWeb.com: all of them Norman Foot, with four clad in chainmail and one unarmored. Also enclosed were four kite shields. As you can see from the images, all of them came well-formed and cleanly cast--these molds are brand spanking new and the figures show it. Minimal mold lines underneath the bases are quickly filed down, although the figures stand up right out of the packet. The previous Crusader Miniatures were 30mm, so that's what I was expecting. I grabbed a MagWeb.com ruler and measured the straightest standing figure of the five: 29mm from sole of foot to eyeball and 33mm from the sole to the top of the helm. The axeman is slightly stooped, so the measure is 35mm from sole to tip of axe. Of the five, one hoists a two-handed axe, one wields a crossbow, and the other three are presumably "spearmen" -- although the trio does not carry weapons--you add them yourself. The axeman wears a mail coif, the other four do not. Four wear chain mail, the fifth does not. One spearman has a plain helmet, the other four bear the typical nasal helm. Two spearmen do not have swords hanging at their sides, but the other three figures do. The four shields sent have three different patterns: plain with an iron boss, metal rimmed with an iron boss, and metal rimmed with an iron boss and extra studs around the boss. I thought it odd the back of the shield was completely flat. When you glue the shield to flattened portions of the spearman's forearm, elbow, and presumably ankle, the back side is hidden. The Look As I noted in the previous Crusader review, an image can speak a thousand words, and so here are two--front and back of the miniatures--to speak two thousand. And if that is not enough, I will repeat two more: highly recommended. Mark does excellent work. The cost is about $1.50 per foot figure.
