Welcome

by Anne F. Jaffe

Hi, this is GAME NEWS. For many of you, this is our first appearance at your newsstand or bookstore. GAME NEWS is a very new product; this is only our eighth issue. For many of you, some of the games we cover may be unfamiliar. We hope you'll be curious enough to give some of them a try.

You probably have heard of some of them such as the Dungeons and Dragons role-playing game, or the Axis and Allies board game. You can learn more about these role-playing games, war games and general adult games including computer games by reading reviews of them in every issue of GAME NEWS.

Besides the game reviews GAME NEWS keeps you abreast of new product releases, lets you know what's planned for future products, publishes the latest game news, and lists conventions around the world. The magazine features new rules variations for some of your favorite games; scenarios, people to encounter and items to include for use in role-playing campaigns; tactical problems and solutions, discussions and analysis of strategy, with tips on how to apply them in war games; and photographs and scenarios of new miniatures releases.

And there are cartoons.

For those readers who have seen us before, we'd like to point out a few changes. The magazine had more pages in the July and August issues. This is due to increased advertising for the summer game conventions. Many game manufacturers plan their new releases for the convention months and increase their advertising then, which allows us to publish bigger issues with more material. while the size of an issue may vary, it will still be filled with useful information.

There are some new features for you to read. The Bunches of Stuff page will keep you informed about game accessories, fanzines, and play-by-mail. The Research Shelf will contain minireviews of military books, which will interest many gamers.

And there are more cartoons.

There are also some minor changes in the look of the magazine, but not startling adjustments. These changes are the result of your comments as well as ongoing evaluations of the magazine by the GAME NEWS staff.

Welcome to our new readers. To our current readers, thanks for your support.
