The HIA Annual Model & Games Trade Show scheduled for September 6-8, 1985 in Detroit, MI has been cancelled.

Morton Dennis Wax & Associates, a public relations firm, will now handle the national publicity campaign for just Games' line of Jamie Swise Mystery Games. A murder mystery party game, each game offers a role-playing situation in which eight players gather together to uncover the perpetrator of a bizarre murder. The publicity campaign includes coverage on nationally svndicated television shows, local radio and television talk shows, newspapers, and magazines.

The Hobby Industries of America recently announced The Source as the theme for the 45th Annual Craft, Model & Collectibles Convention and Trade Show. With HIA's return to Chicago, January 24-29, and the resurgence of the marketplace in the industry served by HIA, the opposing arrows which compose the 'S' of Source and the tag line "Where the Buyer and Seller Meet" give meaning to the 1986 theme.

Mayfair Games, Inc. recently incorporated a product management system into its organizational design. The new appointments to manage this transition include Sam Lewis, Vice President; Cory Glaberson, Editorial Director; Loretta Wilson, Art Director; Robert T. Garcia, Advertising Manager; and Victoria Lynn Jones, Director of Product Management.

Toy Manufacturers of America has made arrangements with Sea Air Holidays, Ltd. for a special package tour to the 1986 International Toy Fair which will be held in Nurnberg, West Germany from January 30-February 5. The package includes round trip airfare from New York to Frankfurt and six nights at the Hotel Maritine and Congress Center in Wurzburg as well as transport shuttles between the toy fair, hotel and airport. The package price per person is $1,140 single, $1,040 double departing on January 29 and returning on February 5. Reservations must be made by October 28,1985. Recently elected board officers and directors for the Toy Manufacturers of America began their term of office last May. Alan G. Hassenfeld, president of Hasbro Bradley, Inc., is Chairman of the Board serving a one-year term. Hassenfeld is also Chairman of TMA's Tariff and Trade Committee. Richard L. Keats, president of Buddy L. Corporation, is Vice Chairman of the Board and Chairman of TNIA's Safety Standards Committee. Glenn Hastings, president of Mattel Toys, is Secretary/Treasurer and Chairman of TMA's Television Committee.

The new board directors serving three-year terms are: Jeffrey S. Jacobson, president of General Mills Toy Group; Joseph Kling, president of Durham Industries, Inc.; Theodore C. Klint, president of Nylint Corporation, Gerald M. Rapaport, president of American Toy and Furniture Company, Inc.; and Richard P. Selchow, president of Selchow & Righter Company.

The GAMA meeting at Origins was highlighted by the appearances of Fred Polk representing the HIA and Frank Mentzer representing TSR, Inc. Polk was present to inform the members of upcoming changes due to decisions made at the HIA board meeting and field any questions and criticisms offered. The most critical change was the cancellation of the HIA Annual Model and Games Trade Show, which was scheduled for September 6-8th in Detroit. Other changes will be covered in more detail next month.

No. The forum for the GAMA meeting also included discussions concerning the anti-roleplaying sentiment in the country. Members talked about whether or not GAMA should make a statement about role-playing games, mount a public relations campaign, or advise its members on handling the problem. A committee of volunteers was formed to meet, consider all of the suggestions and report to the members. Frank Mentzer of TSR, Inc. offered to make the company's press clippings or other information available to the membership, if requested.

The Game Designers Guild also held a meeting at Origins. The new guild president is Greg Costikyan. Greg Stafford continues as vicepresident and treasurer. The guild sponsored seven seminars on a variety of topics at Origins. Greg Costikyan co-ordinated all of them, and participated in several. More details on these activities will also be available next month.
