Hobby Industry Association of America has invested "substantial consumer and trade promotional dollars" in its Annual Model & Games Trade Show, according to a recent HIA news release. The show, scheduled for September 6-8 at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan, includes three days of trade selling time, consumer exposure on September 8, on-floor retail sales, product demonstration areas, and an orderwriting contest with thousands of dollars in prize money. HIA executive director Fred Polk appealed to the HIA membership to provide "knowledge and ideas" recently in a news release about the association's first venture in sponsoring quarterly Manufacturers Network Discussion Groups. The first meeting, held in New York City, included three keynote speakers-Don Reisman, HIA president; George Disch, manufacturer's section chairman; and HIA's Polk. According to the release, other meetings are scheduled to be held in Los Angeles and Chicago. Additional cities are also being considered. Stephen G. Shank, chairman of the executive and advisory committees of the Toy Manufacturers of America, announced the date and place of the 1986 Toy Industry Hall of Fame Dinner Dance. The two TMA committees scheduled the event for February 15, 1986, at the Grand Hyatt in New York City during the 1986 Toy Fair. As previously decided by TMA's board of directors, proceeds from the event will be used to benefit several children's charities which are to be selected by a committee of industry members. The late Raymond P. Wagner has been selected the first honoree to be inducted at the Hall of Fame ceremonies next year. According to Alan G. Hassenfeld, head of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee, names submitted last year will be considered as possible candidates to the Hall of Fame for 1986. The Hall of Fame Selection committee planned to meet in May at the TMA Summer Conference to consider all nominations, according to the TMA news release. Edmund R. Auer, president of CBS Software of Greenwich, Connecticut, recently announced two promotions in sales and product development. James S. Bull Jr. has been named to director, national sales, and Sheldon Safir has been assigned to director, product development. In his new position Bull reports to Barry Denes, vice president, sales. He is responsible for field sales management, executing sales policies and programs, and developing new markets. Safir reports to Marylyn Rosenblum, vice president, product development, in his new position and is responsible for evaluating and acquiring new products, supervising the department's editorial processes, reviewing and assessing competitive products, and maintaining vendor relationships. CBS Software, a unit of the CBS/ Publishing Group, CBS Inc., publishes and markets home computer software for a variety of computer systems. Chris Christensen, sales manager for Iron Crown Enterprises of Charlottesville, Virginia, is responsible for the company's marketing programs and handles all product, sales, or advertising queries.
