Letters From Readers

Dear Editor:

My heartfelt congratulations on your premiere issue of your magazine. I would like to think that the market is now large enough to allow a magazine such as yours to find its place without too much soulsearching. A vehicle for clearly written, unbiased reviews has been sorely missed in the adult gaming field for too long.

While primarily a wargamer, I do enjoy well written articles about role-playing systems. I think it is a shame that your first two articles about role-playing gaming were aimed at such a young, and noticeably inexperienced audience. The highly enjoyable articles about Squad Leader and Axis & Allies were discounted by the distaste that I found in the juvenile "Cleaning out your Dungeon." I am forced to wonder if perhaps that article belonged more appropriately in an issue of Pegasus from approximately 5 years ago. It is horrifying to think that not only are there people who play such silly and power oriented styles of play, but that a major (?) magazine would devote part of their first issue to legitimizing that kind of play. Instead of running an article about how DMs can apply a temporary fix to an ailing and overpowered game, articles about how to avoid the situation entirely are necessary.

The second disturbing article was the Paranoia scenario. This was nothing more than a run through a lazer gauntlet, and did not in any way help show players or DMs anything about Paranoia that they do not already know.

I hope that my comments will provide useful feedback for determining the future direction of your promising magazine. I suggest a quality of article equal to that of your reviews.

Wargamer, eh? You praise us with faint damns, sir. --Editor

Dear Editor:

I was fortunate enough to run across your magazine while browsing at my local hobby store. I was pleasantly surprised by both the format and content of your magazine.

As an avid Civil War gamer, I was informed of new products available as well as interesting information about those by your writers. More importantly, I am overjoyed by the fact that through your magazine, myself and fellow wargamers have a new source of information and a means of communications between ourselves, game manufacturers and each other.

You should be applauded for your efforts with your magazine, the lines of which were long overdue. I look forward to my next issue.
