GHQ, manufacturers of 1/285 scale Micro Armour war gaming miniatures, recently signed a licensing agreement with The Avalon Hill Game Co. of Baltimore to produce Squad Leader miniatures. GHQ also acquired the Tac Force war game rules from Game Designers' Workshop and plans to update and re-edit the game as well as expand it by adding a NATO forces supplement.

Two new employees have joined GHQ recently Steve Apolloni, former head designer at C-in-C Soft Metals, is creating new modern and World War II tanks in 1/285 scale for GHQ.

Jim Moffet, former editor and marketing assistant at Adventure Games Inc., is managing promotion and sales at GHQ. Moffet worked on the miniatures rules Jobnny Reb, The Complete Brigadier, and Harpoon for AGI.

Toy Manufacturers of America announced statistics about its recent American International Toy Fair in New York City According to TMA, close to 16,000 buyers attended the annual 10-day event. According to Charles Riotto, TMA marketing projects director, this figure represents about an 18 percent increase from 1984 registration.

Riotto also reported that a total of 846 exhibitors participated in the show at the Toy Center Buildings compared to 818 exhibiting at the same locations in 1984.

TMA has also announced that the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel is being added as an additional temporary exhibit site for the 1986 Toy Fair Riotto said that in years past, the Sheraton Centre Hotel has been the only temporary location during the trade show.

Softgame Services of Dallas has been appointed distributor to the hobby/game trade by Electronic Arts, announced Softgame president Howard Barasch.

A survey of Hobby Industry of America members and non-members completed in 1984 indicates that 86 percent of HIA members view economic issues as their most pressing problem in the next two to three years versus 12 percent viewing association/industry problems as most pressing.

Maurice Gherman of Hobby Publications and Edward Goldberg of American Traders Inc. were presented the HIA Meritorious Achievement Award during the association's annual banquet in January by Nathan Polk, awards committee chairman.

Established in 1963, the award recognizes and honors HIA members who over the years have contributed to the betterment of the association and the hobbv industry

Donald Reisman of Royal A;ts & Crafts has been re-elected HIA president at the association's board of directors meeting in January, 1985.

Chosen as HIA officers at this meeting were Tony Kohn, Handcraft Designs Inc. elected vice president; Vincent Amato, Amatos Inc. re-elected to secretary; and Bruce Walthers, Wm. K. Walthers Inc. re- elected to treasurer.

The Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) will sponsor a "Retail Marketing for Adventure Games" seminar on Sunday, June 30, at I pm at Origins XI. The seminar will discuss how to start an adventure gaming department; what type of product mix to carry; innovative concepts in sales, employee salesmanship, promotion; and watching the bottom line. Wayne Godfrey 11 of Wargames West will be the speaker.
