Your Editor spent several weeks of the last month traveling across the United States, driving from Worcester to Atlanta and back again. I passed the immediate vicinity of a large number of Civil and Revolutionary War battlefields and other famous sites, stayed in a city that was burned to the ground during one of those wars, engaged in a bit of political warfare myself (I did not participate on the winning side), and returned here. There is a bit of a backlog of new games waiting to be reviewed, which I hope to take care of over the next few months. There are a lot of fine wargames being produced, many of which will never see the light of description except as someone writes them up. One of my correspondents described why reviews in magazines are worthwhile. There are vast numbers of new games showing up. Some of them are good. Some of them are less good. Some of them are wastes of money. You don’t need to agree with a reviewer’s tastes to benefit from a review. If your reviewer says ‘reasonable number of unit counters’, and she was last heard complaining that Drang nach Osten would be a better game on the battalion regiment scale, but it was too small to be interesting, you can use her review. And if a year’s Game! subscription costs $36 (less for electronic subscriptions), and Game! prevents one bad purchasing error a year, it has probably just paid for itself. Game Collectors Take Note! The 1995-1999 Volume of The Collector Supreme’s Own Guide to Published Board Wargames, covering more than 700 board wargames from these years, has been completed by the Editor (your humble Editor himself) and sent on to the Publisher. Look for publication sometime this year. The Collector Supreme’s Own Guide to Published Board Wargames continues the series Pimper’s All the World’s Wargames (Four Volumes, Supplement) covering all Board Wargames published prior to 1995. Work is well advanced on the 2000-2004 Volume of the Collector Supreme’s Guide. So, until next month... Back to Table of Contents -- Game! # 6 To Game!
