Your editor is old enough to remember when Dungeons and Dragons first came out. Indeed, I am old enough to remember the initial perception that this was a set of miniatures rules, like Column Square and Gatling gun, and that it could be used to fight interesting battles that were no more unhistorical than an ancient Roman army fighting an Aztec army. At first, the game was played with outdoor events, most of which involved the players and their small army marching across the board, unable to control their direction of march, until they starved to death, or until they encountered a small group of men. The small group of men is undoubtedly the most dangerous encounter that could be had in the early version of the game. Back to Table of Contents -- Game! # 12 To Game!
