As you all know, Arty and I are moving in the direction of a Shako II as opposed to a supplement. We have been debating many of the new rules and the trend is to greater streamlining and simplification. To that end a couple of new suggestions for old problems and solutions have emerged. I will sketch them out below: 1. Initiative/movement order Arty prefers a system of rolling for initiative and allowing the winner to chose to move first or secon. The movement phase would be divided into 2 sub-phases:
2. all defend/reserve divisions - Player A and then Player B 2. Massed columns The new option is based on an idea from one of you -- columns with units within one stand width of both flanks at the start of the turn move 6 inches. Case closed. This still requires some micro measuring but using a stand makes this quick. 3. Cavalry reforming Disallowed within frontal zone of enemy. Unit unable to Reform MUST recall again 4. Cossacks can only charge units that would use their DisMR in the ensuing melee. They can disperse skirmishers and fall-backers. They can be charged themselves by cav and fight normally. If they charge inf in the flank and the inf form hasty square...goodbye Cossacks. Oh yeah, no more cavalry recall.... Just some quick possibilities. Arty is chewing on all of this stuff. Note that some of these changes are an effort to keep the issues alive that might not be addressed at all if Arty's editing is final.
