This game was played using 'Peace in War' the modern upgrade of the popular 'Rapid Fire' WW2 ruleset . As usual the figures and models used were 20mm. The scenario I'm using is a part of the 'Battle of 73 Easting' ... taken from Tom Clancey's book Armoured Warfare... Terrain is basically rolling dunes, represented by rises and one or occasionally two contour hills, running generally north/south (across the width of the table) The forces are... USAEagle Troop, 2nd ACR... ( Elite )
2 M1A1 tanks (2nd and 4th tank Pln.) 2 recon M3A1 Bradley CFV (1st and 3rd Scout Pln.) 1 M106 120mm SPM (BG) (2 actual) Eagle troop enters the western end of the table, and must move to within 6" of the west end (I'm using an 8x 6 foot table) which is the 73.8 easting line (the limit of advance was supposed to be the 73 easting line, but at that point, Eagle troop was stuck in the middle of the Iraqi armour). They must also eliminate all enemy resistance ( if they have bypassed any troops, their victory conditions have been fulfilled , but any units spotted must be destroyed) IRAQElements of the "Tawaklana" division, Republican Guard (Regular ) (This organization is a guess. it comes from approximate numbers of destroyed vehicles in Clanceys book, and the lack of support (artillery etc) allows for the destruction caused by Coalition airpower ) Mechanized Regiment
1 radio BTR60 1 Recon BMP1 1 BRDM2 with AT3 (AT4?) 2 Tank Companies each with 3 T72M each
The numbers in Clancy's book are "approximately 30 tanks (identified as T72's), 16 BMP infantry fighting vehichle (BMP1 is an assumption on my part) and 39 trucks (I couldn't be bothered working out support units!) The Iraqis deploy anywhere on the table, or programmed to enter at a certain time and point, except for one tank company, deployed in the NE corner in a circular laager, around 3-6" in diameter. The Iraqi mission is to destroy as many of the US forces as possible.
