by R. Hedges

In May 1942 the unit was attached to the 3rd infantry division. The regiment had 3 batteries - 41 , 67 and 101 . Each battery had 3 troops of 4 x 2 pdr anti tank guns carried on portees (12 x 2 pdrs per battery ) . Later in 1942 the 2pdrs were replaced by 6 pdr anti tank guns with Loyd carriers as the tow vehicle ( later to be replaced with Universal carriers .

In October 1943 an extra battery was added - this was known as the 45th , and was added to allow for the regiment to absorb the new with American M10 tank destroyers . Each battery now had one troop with 4 M10's and 3 troops of 6 pdr's .

The unit was landed on D- Day - 41 , 45 & 67 batteries were landed on the 6th of June , 101 on the 7th. In July 1944 the M10 troops were given AA crusader tanks as their command vehicles ( this replaced the jeep currently being used ) , all the 3 inch armed M10's were replaced with the 17 pdr version - the Achilles .

In February 1945 , all the vehicles were again replaced , this time the Achilles were replaced with the new 17pdr armed Archer and the crusader AA tanks were swapped with the Valentine XI or IX's . All the 6 pdr guns were replaced with 17 pdr's .
