The Finnish Soldier

David or Goliath?

By Peter Robbins

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the tallest enlisted soldier on record was Finnish. Vaino Myllyrinne (1909 - 1963) was 7'3" (221 cm) when he was conscripted, and later grew to be 8'3" (251 cm) . Given his date of birth, he would have been about 30 years old at the time of the Winter War. Can any of our Scandinavian readers give us any more info on this soldier, such as which Europa counter he served with, or what size skis he used?
