A Finnish Air Force DXXI of HLeLv 24 was responsible for the first Finnish AF aerial victory of the Winter War: a Soviet SB shot down on I Dec 1939. But who was the pilot? Different sources credit either Lt Eino Luukkanen or Lt Jaakko Vuorela. It was Lt. Jaakko Vuorela, who claimed the first victory on December 5 west of Kamarajarvi (near Lake Kamara). Because of difficult communications between separately stationed flights of the squadron, Lt. Luukkanen was honestly believed to have been the first, and the mistake is perpetuated in some books written afterwards. (Unfortunately, Lt. Vuorela was killed in an accident on January 30, 1940.)
