From the Editor

Better Timing and Surveys

by Rick Gayler

I deserve any chastisement anyone wishes to administer for the latest magazine backlog. Nobody is more disappointed in TEM's sporadic publication schedule than me. I have had to admit I am simply not able to maintain consistent performance doing the magazine by myself. Winston Hamilton, in exasperation, recently demanded that we take whatever steps necessary to correct this deficiency. The only solution I could offer was to bring another editor on board.

Since Frank Watson was the best candidate, we approached him with the task of doing #46. Fortunately for al1 Europa fans, he accepted. A Mac computer and all the materials selected for publication in that issue were recently sent to him.

f this works out, and Frank is willing, we will make this a permanent arrangement, with Frank doing every other issue. This should allow a more consistent mailing of TEM and free some of my time to do other GR/D work, such as game development and testing. I also have a lot of catching up to do answering Second Front rules questions, as several of you out there are aware.

If this campaign succeeds, it will attain the following desirable results:

TEM #46 will be completed by early February, be printed by mid-month and reach members by the last week of February. This will belatedly complete the six issues for 1995.

TEM #47 and #48 will be completed by the end of March. Both issues will be printed and mailed in April, putting us back on schedule.

TEM #49/50, a double issue, will be completed by early June and will be available at Origins. This will put us one issue ahead of schedule. Thereafter, GR/D should be able to maintain a consistent publication schedule. Famous last words?

I predict that Frank will make an outstanding editor. Most readers already know him to be a talented gainer and historian, possessing profound knowledge of WWII. Frank is also extremely energetic and a prolific writer. And what many of you may not realize is that he has already done a lot of creative work on the magazine behind the scenes. All in all, this is a very good thing for Europa.

AND THE SURVEY SEZ:

Here are the results of the survey we sent out. Of the 1,000+ surveys sent we had a response of 632 as of September 8, 1995. Each survey returned was counted, even if no numbers were circled (in which case all uncircled topics were graded at 0). This is the most conservative way to express results. Better to be safe, etc. The numerical expression is represented as a percentage of interest from the responses. As always, if you or any of your mission force are captured, the Secretary will deny any connection...
