The Battle for Rome This Second Front battle scenario by Frank Watson covers the Allied Operation DIADEM offensive in Italy. The scenario abstracts the role of the air and naval forces, making for a beer-and-pretzels match somewhat reminiscent of the perennial favorite Anzio. The Battle for Kiev, 1943 "The Battle for Kiev, 1943" is a 2nd edition version of Flavio Carrillo's popular scenario from TEM #32. There will be minor revisions to the rules and orders of battle, but the centerpiece of the revision will be an A.E. Goodwin Collector Series representation of the playing area (similar in style to the map that appeared with "Lunge to Stalingrad" in TEM #34). The Long Left Flank A sure favorite for Europa fans north of the border, this scenario by Brian McKie focuses on the advance of the Commonwealth (primarily Canadian) forces along the coast of France and into Holland and Germany (on the Second Front maps from the 17A/16A:1500 row north) during late 1944 and early 1945. Based on Jeffery Williams' 1988 book, The Long Left Flank. The Hard Fought Way to the Reich, 1944-45. Eve of Destruction Combined Arms editor Flavio Carrillo simulates Operation Typhoon, the German drive to Moscow in late 1941. "Eve of Destruction" begins with the Vyazma-Bryansk encirclements in October and ends with the Soviet counterattack in December. The scenario will provide a platform for many experimental rules. Drive to the Meuse "Drive to the Meuse" is a Europa rendition of the Battle of the Bulge. The project has evolved into multiple scenarios. The first would utilize two 11" x 17" maps, which together would cover the terrain from the Our River to the Meuse. Units would be primarily at regimental/brigade level, with each game turn representing one day of real time. Special rules would cover the reduced map and time scale. The second scenario would be a Bulge mini-game, played at Europa scale on a 8 1/2" x 11" map consisting of regular Second Front hexes blown up to two or three times their normal size. The third scenario would offer a Bulge maxi-game covering the whole front, allowing players to experiment with Model's "small solution" (kleine Losung) of pinching off the Aachen salient, or even to launch the Bulge offensive in an entirely different sector of the Western Front. In all cases, the scenarios will cover the January period usually ignored by previous Bulge games. Work on the orders of battle is progressing nicely, thanks to the efforts of James Broshot and Don Timian. A Winter War: Boot Camp "AWW: Boot Camp" will turn this already easy-to-play game into the ultimate introduction to Europa. New players familiar with other wargames will be playing in no time at all. Will appear as a bonus scenario. Berlin: 1945 "Berlin: 1945," the end of the 1000-year Reich by Alan Tibbetts and Ray Kanarr. Important progress has been made on this difficult project. The publication of Second Front has helped things along, and another piece of the puzzle has recently fallen into place with Charles Sharp's completion of a draft 1945 Soviet Order of Battle.
