I completed a fairly successful postpublication playing of "Desert Cauldron" recently, ending in an Allied marginal victory. I think that might be the most likely result for the scenario, but it's always hard for me to tell. My Italians rolled a historical `1' on their Bir Hacheim attack, for example, and the now "insignificant" Malta sank my first two Axis supply steps.

Anyway you look at it, it's tough on the Axis to take Tobruk in such a short time. Lengthening the scenario gets more into the Alamein time period, though, and that doesn't totally agree with my idea of a battle scenario.
