Narvik Report

by Winston Hamilton

The basic results of Turn 1 are:

Landings were successful except at Stavanger where one 3-4 Inf from the 214th Division was lost at sea. 1 Pt for battalion, 1 Pt for sunk In transit.

Three fields captured, one by airlanding, two by para. A second para landed (and GDW has stated that they can move and capture a field and allow air units to land there in the same phase) so the exact situation is:

10A:3907 has a 3-4 Flak;

10A-4008 has a para and 3-4 Flak;

10A:4115 has a para and 2 x 2-4 Inf bns from the 163rd.

One Mtn Arty battalion landed at Narvik with He 115s.

One Mtn Arty battery landed at Horten; Ju52 remains there.

All other transported infantry and flak have returned per the enclosed chart.

One para was returned due to weather on an attempt to land at 10A:3819.

One He 111 and Me 110 were destroyed attempting to land at airbases in hexes 5B:2631 and 3819. 2 Pts for lost aircraft.

Firing sequence for interception went as follows: Glad intercepted northernmost mission first in hex 10A:3808. Glad fired at 1 x Me 110 (random choice) and rolled at 41% and missed; Me 110 returned fire with 10% causing a RETURN on the Glad. Return to base at end of phase, but field captured prior to that by airborne and airlanding units. No other fields within range

Glad crashes.

Bombing missions were mixed. The Trondheim mission missed (as did the airlanding attempt). Stavanger hit, disrupting the 2-3-4 there and making the attack a 2:1, with the Nowegian unit standing per the option.

Retreats before combat: I rolled all the retreats before combat first, which I might not do again since it adds more drama and randomness to do it as each combat occurs.

Trondheim: Units retreated to 5B:2631. I exploited with 2 x 3-4s into the hex and interdicted the hexside. I also exploited to 5B:2623 with 1 x 3-4 to block the mountain hex and protect Trondheim.

Bergen: No retreat before combat and the attack was made at the terrific odds of 1:1 but I got a 6 on the chart (clean living). Norwegies dead, truck destroyed and one 3- 4 German dead (1 Pt).

Stavanger: No retreat again, but a 6 again so a retreat onto the airfield I presume. Unit is on the rail line and on an airfield, and that is where I would want to be.

Halden: Must retreat, no combat. Retreat to 10A:4307.

2-5 at Narvik move to hex 513:0910
