Coming Attractions The next issue of the Europa magazine will feature Alan Tibbetts's Europa Battle Scenario #4, "Fortress Holland". This scenario will be played on an 8 1/2" x 11" extract taken from a draft copy of Second Front map 16A. Needless to say, this is a fast-playing game for those occasions when there isn't time or space for a full-blown Europa campaign. Rules which postulate a sane Allied preparation and response make this a tightly balanced mini-game. Articles include Phillip Buhler's ideas on German strategy in Their Finest Hour, an Origins report from A.E. Goodwin; news on Second Front from Rick Gayler; Designer's Notes on A Winter War by Gary Stagliano (with A.E. Goodwin); and exciting new "Inside Europa" material from John Astell. Also look for new installments of our popular regular features: "GR/D Briefing", "Rules Court", "From the Editor", "Europa: East Front", and "EXchange". Until then, may all your divisions have cadres. Scenario Update Here is a rundown of scenarios currently under development for inclusion in future issues of TEM: "Fortress Holland", Europa Battle Scenario #4, is described above. Designer: Alan Tibbetts. "El Alamein", Europa Battle Scenario #5, is a solitaire scenario which introduces two new rules for Europa. The first is a more interactive treatment of the 'surprise attack turn' that provides a general treatment for handling prepared offensives such as Kursk, the Normandy Breakout, the Battle of the Bulge, and (of course) Alamein. A second new concept, the 'major effort', gives players the option of simulating take- or hold-at-alI-costs orders at the operational level. This will be another of the growing number of Europa scenarios playable in a single long evening. Designer: Jim Arnold. "Operation Saar-The French Strike First". This is the long-awaited First to Fight scenario which allows the Allied player to attempt to nip Germany's aggression in the bud by moving aggressively on the Western Front. The scenario will use the new Second Front maps (more on this next issue!), and Allied counters from Fall of France, as well as all the components of First to Fight. Could the French have breached the Siegfried Line in time to save Poland if General Gamelin had made a determined attack? Find out for yourself! Designer: Jason Long. "The Battle of Kiev: 1943", as so compellingly related by Jack Radey in TEM V, returns to the Europa magazine as a strike and counter-strike scenario. As Vatutin can you drive the Germans back into Poland, or will von Manstein hurl you back across the Dnepr? Designer: Flavio Carrillo.
