NEWS FROM GRD

by Winston Hamilton

KIT 5 - Spain is out (after Kit 6, oddly enough) and we have been getting some questions concerning the scenario John Astell designed, "Spanish Torch". There will be a new regular feature column in TEN dealing with errata for the kits and other projects and products as they are published. Send what questions and comments you have on the kits to GRD at the Grinnell address and we will get them answered.

The Spanish Civil war counters are next up. Now I know that this project has been talked about for some time. Negotiations took longer than expected and getting time in the production stream was (and is) tough, but I wanted to be sure that the quality is at the same level at that set by GDW. The counter sheets will be done with the same color codes and typefaces used by GDW in the Europa series. The cost of the project has not been set due to some unknowns that are still ahead, but the project is beginning to move forward. John Greer, the master artist and layout swami should have the rough drafts soon. The development of the counter sheets is currently being done by John Astell and myself. It will include the naval vessels as described in Bill Stone's ETO, designed by John Gee himself. Speaking of ETO, a recent article in the "News & Rumors & Gossip" section of the double issue 31/32 states that I am ready to go with Europa-Pacific in the rules and ratings. Sorry, Bill, I must not have made myself clear. There is no Europa-Pacific planned. Map work and IJN ratings are done for a game at the scale of Coral Sea, but in Europa terms it would take 40 plus maps (most of which would be process blue) and complete guess work on Chinese and other OBs to cover a portion of the area. But was it Bill Stone who told me he was doing a complete Europa remake on the Squad Leader scale? I just can't remember now.

For 1988 we have to make decisions. The kits to be completed are few. With the release of Second Front we will have the final maps done for Europa. Since these new maps will cover France, part of Spain, Italy and maybe Map 13, Germany, I am somewhat hesitant to produce a Their Finest Hour or Fall of France kit. It seems somewhat silly to re- print maps, so I was thinking of a monster kit covering all three games at one time with combined Air, Rail and Port charts and various other stuff. Leaves us with CW and MM to do and the ever popular NE to complete the series. I would appreciate some feedback to TEN as to your opinions and comments.

So, the next project from GRD is the counter sheets. As soon as we are ready to go you will receive a special offer notice. As members of the EPA you will receive a special, special notice, sort of like double secret probation, if you know what I am talking about. Finis
