I appreciate you taking the time to send out the 18 January 1985 Marita-Merkur errata sheet (Re: "Rules Court," TEM #13). My errata sheet was single sided and dated 14 July 1979. Do you have a list of the most recent errata for all the Europa games? I think I am several generations behind! Yes indeed. You may receive any of the listed errata sheets by sending a request and a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Case White 1st Ed. 15 July'77 Case White 2nd Ed. 27 August '87 Fall of France 9 September '81 Their Finest Hour 21 September '83 Narvik 21 April '82 Western Desert 7 December '83 Torch 27 August'87 Spain & Portugal 27 August'87 The Near East 7 December '83 Fire in the East 21 July'87 Scorched Earth May 1 '89 SE w/Urals Mods May 1'89 Torch In Kasserine Crisis, the Axis initial deployment has 4.5 REs of reinforcements listed as having just landed successfully in the initial phase of their Dec I player turn. Is this intentionally circumventing the Axis naval transport capacity stated in the rules, or have I missed a slick trick around the Axis 3 RE per turn limit? No slick trick here! You've just overlooked a very important section of the rules! Rule 26B1 states that units entering as reinforcements do not count against the player's shipping capacity. In effect you can naval transport an unlimited amount of reinforcements, although these units do count against the port capacities of the ports where they land. The Torch OB shows the Ramcke 'Para X entering the replacement pool on the Jan I 43 turn. Since rule 33B is not used in Torch it appears that this unit is destined to be treated as a scrapped unit. Have I missed something or did the Allies just score a mess of points? The Allies just got a gift equal to five points: Three for Ramcke and two for his friends. Rommel's rear guard, I reckon. If the Axis really blow it and lose all their supply terminals before Rommel even arrives on the board Jan I 43, do the Allies get to count all his units as eliminated? Absolutely! Torch rule 30B states that "All Axis forces in Libya... are considered eliminated," and that's where Rommel's guys are - offmap in Libya. In Kasserine Crisis do the Victory Point awards already have the penalty for scrapped units figured in for commando and airborne units? Yes, however, notice that the loss of Axis airborne units only earns the Allies three VPs per RE. The three points are due to such units being automatically scrapped; however they doesn't incur the doubling penalty as do the Allied airborne units. This is, by the way, the standard Torch treatment with a slightly different wording. Scorched Earth What effect do frozen lakes have on combat? (Rule 29D2) None. Because of the way the rule is written (i.e. only allowing units to move across frozen lake hexsides that are between two land HEXES), their movement isn't that different from crossing clear terrain. This ice would be very thick and the troops wouldn't be exposed on it for any duration of time. Note the slight modification of the rule to define the frozen lake hexside as lying between two land HEXES rather than HEXSIDES. This is an "official" change. What effect do frozen lakes have on movement? (Rule 29D2) No additional movement points are paid for crossing such hexsides. Of course, as the rules state, no ground unit may enter an all-lake hex, even if frozen. Oops, I have just discovered that I have allowed all my German Kriegsmarine transports to get frozen into an ice-bound port! Can I remedy this by: (a) Scuttling my own transports? (b) Bombing my own transports? Killing them off will allow me to rebuild them with the pile of naval RPs I've built up all game! (Rule 29D3) I'm answering no to both as neither is mentioned in the rules. However, both would be possible, though not probable, in reality, Perhaps John Astell will comment on this situation in a future issue. Can the USSR fly naval interdiction missions against Finnish ports Jun 11 41? (Rule 38E) Yeah, the mission isn't resolved until the Axis Jul I turn, Finland will be at war by then. Besides, it is German transports you will be bombing, and in "neutral" waters. Can the German player build/ form 2-10 hv AA regiments from battalions without the regiments having been called for on the OB? There are four 1- 10 h v AA II's and three 2-10 hv AA III's in the Scorched Earth countermix which are not called for in the OB. These can be used for breaking down or build/forming without being called out by the OB. They are:
1-10 hv AA II 1/7, 1/36, 1/29, & 2/26 Other than these, mot hv AA units are available only as called for on the OB.
