1st Gordon Highlanders Officers

Europa News Bits

by Deen Wood

It occurred to me to count the number of officers who had served with the Battalion since D-Day. Up to March 27, the end of the Rhine crossing (less than 10 months in total), I found that we had 55 officers commanding the 12 rifle platoons, and that their average service with the Battalion was 38 days.

Of these, 53% were wounded, 24% killed or died of wounds, 15% invalided, and 5% survived.
