Editorial

and in Memorium

By Terry Hooker

It seems an age since I last typed anything for E.D. although it's only four months, which is not that bad for me, as mentioned in the last issue there will be 52 pages plus the cover pages, I'd better crack on with it!

Some of you may have noticed the society booklet No. 5 came off the press in mid-March entitled "Notes on the Mexican Army 1900-1920", it contains two articles previously published in E.D. by Adrian English and C. A. Norman that relate to the Revolution and Federal Uniforms, the remainder of it's content is new, with chapters on; Mexican Organisational Data 1900 & 1914, The Mexican Federal Army 1912-14 and Mexican Flags, 80 pages of text with 11 pages of b/w illustrations, that's what I was working on during February-March. As always my letter answering goes to pot when I'm trying to complete any project/article, my apologies to all of you who may be waiting for a reply.

The society stand that appears at some wargame shows, after some thought by Ian Sumner and myself, will in the future contain illustrations covering a certain war or subject, at the last show at Armley "Fiasco", Leeds, we illustrated the Paraguayan War. Another area where we thought the society could help, was to show various ranges of figures that are available which cover Latin American Wars, I was sent some 15mm Aztec warrior figures, about 30, from Gladiator Figures, Bedfordshire, who agreed with this idea. I will have to paint them up and place them onto a stand, hopefully other manufacturers will also think that this could be a good way of showing their range of Latin American figures to the wargaming fraternity, via a society that researches this field of military history, only time will tell? The society table, or tables if we're lucky, are booked to be at "The Other Partizan", Newark 16th August, "Border Raider 97", Newcastle, 6th September, and "Fiasco II", Royal Armouries, Leeds 2nd November, so if you are going to visit these shows try and find us if you can.

One last item that may be of interest to the British member, towards the end of August, I will be sending out a bi-monthly book list from a new venture that I am in the middle of setting up for the society under the title of "From The Shelves of MOCTEZUMA; Books from the Americas",.

This project is to supply books published in the Americas, although one would think mainly from the U.S.A., related to military history from all periods, not only Latin America, that I can purchase second hand or new and sell them, hopefully, cheaper than other booksellers. I will have to begin small as I do not have too much capital to play about with, but hopefully in 2 years time who knows?

I must add that none of my books will be for sale, I am only selling ones that I have just bought since the 1st June 1997, any Latin American title included will be a double that I have just managed to purchase.
