Now for some magazine articles; Revue de la Societe des Amis du Musee de L'Armee No.104, 1992 No.2, "L'Armee d'Ancien Regime et la defense des "Isles" 1756-1783", by Pierre-Jean Darracq, 9 pages of text with B/W illustrations on all pages, what a pity that the plates for the Regt. de Port-au-prince, Regt. du Cap, Dragon du Regiment de Conde-Dragons and Regiment d'Infanterie Boulonnais were not published in colour, very good text as always. Aviation magazine January 1993 has an article by Mike Minnich entitled "Senta a Pua" this is about the Brazilian 1st Fighter Squadron during the Second World War in Italy with first hand accounts from some of its surviving pilots, plus 3 colour photographs, see pages 30-37. In Military Modelling November and December issues was a two part article by Nicholas van der Bijl on the Argentine troops in the Falklands War, this would appear to be additional data not included in his Osprey book on the same theme. While in the January issue of Miliary Illustrated is another article by Mr. Van der Bijl this time on the Argentine 25th Infantry Regiment during the Falklands/Malvinas War, unit history, some coloured photgraphs too. The November issue of Military Illustrated has the concluding part to Rene Chartrand's article "Leather Jacket Soldiers" with two coloured plates by Dave Rickman, well worth obtaining a copy. Recieved a copy of "Buenavista de Indias", Junio 1992, No.3. Vol.1. It has four articles, three of these could be of interest; "Las Fortificaciones en America Durante la edad Moderna [II], "La Plumeria Mexicana" and the best "Distincion Social y Poder en el Ejercito Colonial de los Borbones", with 13 coloured plates of Colonial units from the Archivo General de Indias, plus 2 plates on the Phillipines showing 43 different uniforms of various unit in 1780 and 1797, it is published by "EDICIONES ALDABA" no address or price, this copy was sent in by a member in Mexico, can anyone help-out with these details, as this magazine will be a must for anyone interested in Spanish Colonial America, including me. There is a telephone number: Tel.: 416 45 44. Fax: 519 13 07 C/Anzuola, so good luck. Last thing, received the three Volume work published by the "CLUB FRANCAIS DE LA FIGURINE HISTORIQUE" titled "La Campagne du Mexique, 1861-1867", the first two volumes cover the French Army using the dress regulations of that period including lace details etc, while the third volume includes details of the French Medical, Marines, Navy, Naval Artillery, Contra-Guerilla, Auxillary Division, Cazadores of Mexico, Egyptians, Belgian Legion and Austrian Legion, 460 pages in all including a colour plate at the back of each volume, plus numerous line drawings, really good for the French uniforms and therefore a must, alas a number of the uniform line drawings at the back were not up to my expectations. [T.D.H. sorry about cramming the sentences up, a bit tight for space, as always.] Back to Table of Contents -- El Dorado Vol V No. 3 Back to El Dorado List of Issues Back to MagWeb Master Magazine List © Copyright 1993 by The South and Central American Military Historians Society This article appears in MagWeb (Magazine Web) on the Internet World Wide Web.
