Haitian Army
1794 - 1915

Uniform Plates No. 3,4 & 5
1800-1900

by M. Roubicek

Plate 5
This shows a Grenadier of the Guard circa 1800, sorry again no details on the colours for this one either, but the turn-back ornament looks like a French hunting horn but should it not be a grenade?

Note also the shoulder strap with its 5 points at the end. This picture is also printed in Rene Chartrand's Osprey book No. 211 "Napoleons Overseas Army" and well worth buying if you happen to be interested in this eventful period of Haitian history.

Plates 3 & 4 are taken from photographs dated 1864 and initially drawn by Knotel (the elder I presume, T.D.H.].

I'm sorry to say no colour instructions have been found for them, just some of their unit titles which are:

Plate 3
FIG. 1 Dragoon of the Guard
FIG. 2 Type of shako
FIG. 3 Officer of Infantry
FIG. 4 & 5 Infantry Privates
FIG. 6 Chasseur of the Guard

Plate 4
FIG. 1 Captain of Engineers
FIG. 2 Lieutenant of Artillery
FIG. 3 Private Infantry of the Line.
FIG. 4 Sapper.
