Brazilian II Army Corps

As Organized 1866

by Ernie Stewart

The Brazilian II Corps was originally organized from various detachments in the Corrientes area. Thus it contained a number of "Provisional Corps", battalion sized units made up of detachments from other units. The II Corps was nicknamed "The Boys in Black Hats" due to the large number of troops from Brazil's southern provinces who tended to wear the broad brimmed black Gaucho hat in place of the kepi or barracks cap.
