With this issue I am pleased to announce that another page has been included hopefully this will be the norm, giving you ten pages of text and plates plus this front sheet, maybe not as many pages as I would like but it's still early days. The plates on Ecuadorean Insignia are taken from the 1956 Dress Regulations which were kindly loaned to me by J. Rogers of the U,S.A. while the plate on Mexican Uniforms 1910-23 is taken out of the files on Latin :America that belonged to Rene Forth, although not drawn by him, these illustrations with notes had been sent to him by a Mr.Carter of the U.S.A. I will set to on an officers rank chart of Mexico covering the periods, 1884, 1914 and 1978 using the volume "El Ejercito Mexicano" published by the Secretaria de la Defensa National, Mexico 1979, as the source. The article on Mexican Uniforms worn during the war with the U.S.A. is reprinted from the magazine "Tradition" my sincere thanks to Mr. R. Belmont- Maitland, who knowing of my continued commitment in the study of Latin American Military History has allowed me this privilege, the second part will appear in the next issue. The plate with it is by Sr. J. Balaguer, based on J.Hefters illustrations that were published in "The Mexican Soldier" The other illustrations by Sr. J. Balaguer are from the numerous plates that he has sent in for publication. There is another fine article by C.A. Norman on a little Town subject, the second part with illustrations will also appear in the next issue. Lastly an article by Mr.R.Rubricek of Israel which will go very well with the plates from No.3. Vol.1. that were on the Danish West Indies. he has also promised to send in other articles on a variety of subjects so thank you one and all for your efforts. Could any member supply any information on the Presidential Guard (Guatemala) of the present day, it is thought that these troops wear a grey tunic with black braid but in what design we don't know, or anything else, if you can help please write in. I have also recieved from Hal Thinglum issue 14 of MWAN -- this is devoted to the Texan War of independence and the U.S.-Mexican War, printed it 1985; a good article appeared in it on the Texan Army by Greg Novak. I will include parts of it in a later issue of "El Dorado".
