I must say that the last 12 months have flown by, for although the first issue of "El Dorado" was printed in May 1988. My illustrations for it and the preparation that went into it started a few months before. I began with the hope that twenty people might be interested in subscribing to it, but this figure has now multiplied to a hundred with new members each week. This is very pleasing to me and also my fellow researchers who over the years have felt that this subject was regarded by publishers as a no go area, with only a few determined authors steadily producing articles for publication in European and American magazines, bulletins and journals, being the most obvious. It would seem that our hopes and endeavour in this subject have not been in vain with model makers, wargamers and historians turning to the many diverse epochs that this field of research covers. I would like to thank all the people who have helped me with articles and advice on the layout of the contents in this first year of publication. Uniforms of the Allied Armies of the Viceroyalty by Mr. Ron Poulter. Peru 1827-30 Uniforms by Sr. Jose Balaguer. Other Mexican Uniforms 1846 from the files of Mr. René North. Brazilian Order of Battle for the First Battle of Tuyuti, 24th. May 1866 by the Brazilian Military Attaché, Washington D.C. (sent in by Mr E. Stewart, U.S.A.) The Start of the Triple Alliance War 1865-70 by Mr. Terry D. Hooker. The Brazilian Air Force 1945, (Uniforms and Insignia) by Joseph Hefter, and Sr. Paulo Cid Fellows. I have received for inclusion in No7 two plates on modern Panamanian uniforms from Mr. Mark Conrad of the U.S.A., although while sketching these uniforms he was arrested and charged with crimes against the security of the Panamanian State. He was held for 8 hours before the U.S. authorities were notified and could extricate him, so be warned all you budding researchers, and thanks Mark for all of your trouble.
