By Terry Hooker
This issue includes a section pertaining to Italy during the Second World War, By Snr. Paulo Cid Fellows of Brazil. These Brazilian articles were negotiated for publication in "El Dorado" by my friend Monsieur J.Y. Goffi of France. I received a review copy of "Badges, Medals, Insignia of the Irish Defence Forces" by James J. Hogan, covering the period 1914-88. This is a very well researched book with many fine illustrations by artists such as Mr. Glenn Thompson etc. in its 80 pages and is a must for anyone interested in 20th century militaria and at £1.50 it's a bargain. All inquiries to: PO Box 51, Military Archives, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin 6, EIRE. Books and Plates that readers either have for sale or need for their research and cannot find locally are available for listing. I think you will find this service of use no matter which country you reside in and hopefully a number of little known books will be freely available to us all, so if you have duplicates let me know. I have included in this issue the beginning of a two-part article by my friend Colonel A. Marquez Allison of the Chilean Army, a military historian best known for his work in "Campaign" magazine on the Liberation Army of San Martin and his book "Cuatro Siglos de Uniformes en Chile" 1976 Santiago. Also you will see a page on units involved with the later period of the Liberation of Peru from "Ayacucho la Libertad de America" Lima 1974, with it you will see Patriot unit strengths at the Battle of Ayachucho which maybe of help to the wargamers amongst us (although double check the addition). This will be a regular feature ie. organization and order of battles, if you could inform me which period, war or battle you are interested in to enable this information to be gathered for publication. Other articles: Conclusion to the 1st. part which appeared in issue No.2. "Uniforms and Equipment, Mexican Army 1865" source: El Diario del Imperio; Aztec Warriors, by T.D. Hooker - source: "Codex Mendoza"; and The Chilean Army 1879-84 (the Pacific War) by Col. A. Marquez Allison. For the next issue I have received two articles, the first by my friend René Chartrand of Canada which is a transcript of Bolivian dress regulations 1851 (and if I have room 1842), while the second is a series of articles on Brazilian forces 1940 - 46 including uniforms worn by troops of the F.E.B. who served with the Allies.
