Seasons Greetings to everyone! You have In front of you yet another Installment of EGG. This editing stuff really Is a lot of work but It has many payoffs. The obvious kudo is getting all the mail. Then there is the exchange of ideas (an obvious plus for a school junkie like myself). But the best payoff is forming ties with all you people who are reading this. Wargaming and gaming in general is a small fraternity filled with truely interesting people. The comraderie that exists between us, in our games and at conventions, is the greatest bonus of our hobby. I am happy to provide a forum for this association to grow. This is a good time to evaluate the progress of my Matrix project. Starting In January, it will be entering into Its third year! Back in the winter of '87, when I made my first MG (I'd been thinking on these line for a while before), I realised that this was something new. I knew that new things are always ignored at first. I also had the belief that this was a good idea and that its time had come. So I made a plan ... I figured that it would take at least three years to spread the word about MGs. I further figured that if at the end of 3 years I had convinced 100 people of the worth of this idea that I had been very successful. So much for the goal and time table. No idea spreads of its own inate "goodness." They are spread by use and discussion. For games discussion includes 1) writing articles, 2) developing new scenarios/matrixs, 3) and of course actually talking to people. So my plan was to 1) work on the idea and make it better [unfortunately the point that many game makers don't progress beyond), 2) write articles fox game magazines, 3) correspond with interested gamer (EGG], 4) and talk to as many gamers as I could about MGs. This alone is not enough without using the game, so the plan also included 1) running play test games with interested friends, and 2) running MGs at conventions. In 2 years I've done the following: written 6 articles on MGs, made 15 Matrixs (with corresponding improvements in the system), talked with many gamers at conventions (role players and miniatures gamers alike), put out 4 EGGs, and had a lot of fun. I do not think I've reached my 100 goal yet but I still have a year to go. I think the idea is well on its way to being able to stand on its own. As always I encourage you to write in with ideas and comments.
