Perilous Encounters

A Morale Matrix Game
for Miniatures

by Steve Lortz

Steve's matrix is placed on a deck of cards and is used as a alternative morale system for his fantasy miniatures game "Perilous Encounters". Aside from being a fun gamer, Steve is also an excellent miniatures sculpter. What follows is Steve's matrix and a short piece on how he uses it.

Steve MG has players make arguments and resolve turns in the same way as my MGs do. Note that - Yes and... Yes but ... and No actually... are they ways I used to do counter arguments in the past. Yes ands succeed on a 4 or less, Yes buts on a 3 or less and No actuallys on a 2 or less.

The game la played out using the regular rules up until a morale check would be rolled. Then instead of using the normal morale rules players make matrix arguments. By doing this players know why their men broke and ran. This is certainly a valid way to use MGs in a supportive role to miniatures rules.

It seems reasonable that Steve's matrix could be used by other miniatures rules as an alternate morale system. Why not give it a try?
