Welcome to EGG 11! You will notice that this EGG looks very different from the proceeding EGGs. We all have Greg Novak to thank for this improvement. I've favored going to a book format for some time. While I was at. Winter Wars, Greg also suggested the change. I agreed with him and pointed out that my problem with book format is stapling. The next day Greg reappeared with a saddle stapler in hand. He placed it in my hands with the message "DO IT!" So here it is. Thanks" Greg, I probably wouldn't have been able to afford this kind of change fox a good while without your help. (For those of you who don't know, saddle staplers are VERY expensive.) The way I figure it, this is worth a life time subscription. Please consider yourself enrolled! It is a strange thing to write a newsletter about wargames while we are at war. The question about "Black Wargames" seems likely to pop up again soon. This question is of course about the morality of playing games about immoral things. Black Wargames are games that are meant to challenge the players Ideas about what is right or wrong. They are possibly "more realistic" in a grimmer and darker way. For instance, how do you feel about playing a game about the land war in the Gulf. Most of us know people over there. I get a shudder. It is like walking on someone's grave. Paddy Griffin used this debate a few years ago to work on some new approaches to wargames. So the debate might be useful for EGG. On the other hand, it may well be best left to each individual to decide if he wants to play grimmer, darker games or not. If you have any ideas about experimental games please write a letter or send in an article.
