There comes a time in all men's lives...yes. This is being written as the Alberta Express roars through the Eastern U.S. and my thermometer reads at -10 (Fahrenheit, thank you). So from time to time I shall leave you to rush to the coal stove and throw some more on. ARRRRRGGGG GGHHHHHHHHHH!!! No doubt you have read the esteemed editor's work on deployment elsewhere in this issue which I am (as well as the other members) in agreement with. Now comes the problem of translating this to the wargame board. Having heard from many readers, I know you are waiting for our 15mm rules. Believe me so are we! The problem has been one of time, of course; those of you who have been with us for a while (at least the 50's) can easily recall moaning for many a page. But let me tell you a story, it is really the damn magazine's fault. We've been caught on the horns by our own petard, and so on .... the problem simply is that through the magazine's Research Division, a subdivision of Dilema, Inc., which includes all the various Editors and an active readership -- We simply know too much and the information comes in daily. This makes for troubles in River City, folks. So, here's what happens; our gaming philosophy is different from the major rules on the market today. One good example is the attention to formation and unit spacing that many rules completely ignore. We also are trying to solve the problems of command flow. The other problems of actually shooting are fairly easy in the long run. Now our first set of rules was a telephone book of yellow pages to explain WHY in great detail. Our 15mm rules should be no more that 40 pages, with diagrams and templates. And of course to do this in our copious spare time, hang on a little longer, we will not fail you. QUESTION ON FIGURES FOR BAVARIANS: A reader writes in to ask what type of 'Minifigs' would work for an 1809 Bavarian line battalion? Answer: Any of the figures for line are acceptable. figures without backpacks might be more realistic but that is really debatable.
