Napoleonic Figure Review

by Mike Gilbert

NOW I must admit to something--boy, have I gotten jaded and bored.

'Yup, itreally happened to me, so in last issue's colunm I rambled and slithered. You know, after a while you expect that Minifigs and Freikorps will put out their usual great figures every other month or so--who knows, who cares, why bother? But let me tell you, I just got excited over--hot flashes--the works. So now I'm ready for a whole bunch of hard-hitting articles and reviews, and here we go with what set me off.

I've got a new figure company for you. Now before I go into detailslet me tell you what these figures (in 25 and 15mm) are among the finest you are ever going to see. They are beyond a mere point rating. O.K., here goes....

PASS OF THE NORTH. 629 Centennial, El Paso, Texas 79912. The main figure designer is Juan Cortez and his work ranks with the best of Ral Partha and Minifigs. Anatomy, expression, animation are present in eah and every figure that I've seen. and on top of that, each figured is well equipped with all the "stuff" that the average soldier would carry into the field. When you see these figures you'll think of a cross between the solidness of a Minifig and the fine detailing of Jacobites and Ral Partha. So are you excited? Are you hot to trot? Well let me tell you some of what they have to offer.

A.Turner (the POTN Director) called me just before my deadline and filled me in on what they had to offer. At the moment, they do not do Napoleonics but... In 25mm, they have a massive range of Mexican War troops. The details on these figures are hard to believe as is the animation. All the troops are available and many (like Kentuckians) can be used for Civil War gaming. The skirmish gamer will have a field day with these.

A range of Plains Indians is also coming out (with interchangeable heads to make over 200 different figureds).

Now in 15mm, we have got some real goodies. There is a massive SYW line of Prussians (Hiss), Austrians and soon to be released British. With, of course, personalities. Lookie, there goes a ACW line, and even French Colonials from Mexico on.

Now, they told me of even more stuff that is coming: but that will be in the next issue. So to top it off, here is more good news: Pass Of The North gives discounts! The price list runs as follows:

One last thing that the people of Pass of the North wanted to make clear. They are willing to hear from every gamier with suggestions about figures and figure ranges. Indeed, I was told that many of their figures were inspired by customers' prequest. So, let''s Call for those baggage and ammmo wagons that we all need.

Send an SASE to Pass of the North. I can assure
