Count de Vaux

On Corsica

by Tom Devoe

I offer the following bit of information that I think is fantastic.

"The Count de Vaux, the new commander of the French Troops is taking every measure to open the Campaign against the Corsicans. The French reinforcements that already arrived at Corsica consist of 10,000 men, 3,000 mules, and 1,200 horses, beside ammunition, provisions, and forage." New York Journal, July 27, 1769.

Marchal de Vaux went on to completely conquer the island of Corsica. The end result of course, was that the inhabitants were now French Citizens and able to join the French Army. One of its inhabitants, did just that, Napoleon Bonaparte. How my ancestor changed history.
