Question # 58-1. I have a question that I hope you can help me with. How were the Bavarian battalions (both line, light and Guard) organized in the Napoleonic period, say from 1806 on? The Men-At-Arms book is very incomplete. I can't be sure if the grenadiers remained in the battalion or what. I would appreciate your help.
Partial answer to question #58-1: It is impossible to answer the question completely in the short space available. However much more complete information on the Bavarian Army is readily available from the booklet authored by Ray Johnson Napoleonic Armies. Volume I sold by the RAFM Company at the very reasonable price of $5.95. Question # 58-2: I would like some additional information on the Westphalian Army to organize a wargame army. Items such as how many line and light regiments there were. How many cavalry units and what kind. The number of which kind and their uniforms etc.. Any help would be most helpful.
Partial answer to question # 58-2: Here again it is impossible to answer the question in the short space available. However we can help to look the requested data to raise a Westphalian Army. First, we have published many articles in past issues of E, E & L that are a partial complement to the information that is currently available. I believe that in a short time, George Nafziger and Mike Gilbert will be publishing a booklet on the Westphalian Army to be edited by the RAFM Company. At the present time several books give data on the Westphalian Army. Among the currently available we can mention:
(2) Otto von Pivka, Napoleon's German Allies (I). Westphalia and Kleve-Berg, Osprey-Men-At-Arms Series. The list is not exhaustive, but both booklets provide the basic data to organize and paint a Westphalian Army. Question # 58-3.
