In talking with Steve Carpenter at the M.F.C.A. Convention he mentioned that the long promised War of 1812 figures are stili pretty much up in the air and no release date has even been discussed, nor what figures the new range will consist of. However, an educated guess, based upon much historical research would be: CAVALRY U.S. Light Dragoons. The United States had two such
regiments which were combined into one unit before the conflict ended.
This represented the ENTIRE regular mounted arm. Militia Horse alse~
to bet included.
Perhaps a marine or seamen figure or two. That would permit the bases for the American Military Establishment at that time. Additionally another range to be the subject of a forthcoming major article, will be the Texas Independence--Mexican-American Wars: 1935- 1848 period. Remember, the Mexican Army was heavily influenced by the Napoleonic period, retaining most of the uniforms until the 1850ts. Most Mexican infantry carried the British Brown Bess Flintlock. French and Spanish Napoleonic figures can easily fit into this range to augment the new planned figures. Staff Artist Jeanette Danel is planning a working vacation in Florida where she will be visiting the Castillo de San Marcos to do research on uniforms of the Spanish Colonial Army.
