Questions and Answers

Lauzun's Legion

by Jean Lochet

New JAW News

This part of EMPIRES, EAGLES AND LIONS deals with specific questions requested by our readers and authors. We find this section necessary because many questions remain without answers and are lost in the back issue of the magazine. We are intending here to keep the list open until the answer comes. We'll repeat the questions from time to time.

Not very much action to report here. Is that part of EMPIRES, EAGLES and LIONS of interest?

I had to delay the answer to question # 13 on the French Eagles (requested by Jon Harrison). The answer will be published in the form of an article of some 2 pages and the cover of issue # 25 will be showing the true French Eagle of the 1804 pattern as designed by Chaudet at the request of Napoleon.

QUESTION # 14

What was the fate of the LAUZUN'S LEGION when it returned to France in 1783 after the War of Independence? (see article in EE&L issue # 23)

The Lauzun's Legion returned to France in 1783 and was changed to the Reaiment de Hussars de Lauzun by a decree of September 14, 1783.

In 1791, the Hussads de Lauzun became the 6th Regiment de Hussars. By a Decree of June 4, 1793 they were renamed the Sth Hussar Regiment. They kept the number 5 until the end of the Empire.
