From Chandler, THE CAMPAIGNS OF NAPOLEON, page 43: "Gunner and Engineer officer cadets were trained at the older Royal Military Academy located at Woolwich (founded in 1741 and known as the shop)". It is reasonable to assume that the training of both included the firing of guns. Is it correct? That would be in agreement with Dick Ponsini in an earlier article saying that Engineer officers were trained to fire guns. Can anyone helps? The first Military College was opened at High Wycombe in 1798 but moved to Great Marlow in 1802 as the "junior department". The final move to Sandhurst took place in 1812. The two institutions were merged in 1947.
