I am really confused about the all subject of Russian sappers. The data on them is rather scarce. THE RUSSIAN ARMY OF THE NAPOLEONIC WARS Men-at-Arms series, does-not give much ... The first regiment of engineers, an offshoot of the artillery, was formed in 1728 of 2 companies of miners, 2 of sappers, and 2 construction companies. In 1812, the engineers corps comprised 24 companies of pioneers and the same number of pontoon companies which had been taken over from the artillery. That is about all. No mention of their training is given. There is no mention of regimental sappers or pioneers either. Needless to say that any additional information will be welcomed.
