by Jean A. Lochet (Mr.)
We are very proud to present this second issue of EMPIRES, EAGLES and LIONS on schedule. I am surprise myself because my job requires so much traveling (too much for my taste), and, consequently, that cut down my available time at home. Perhaps it's good to a certain extent, since that gives me to read a great deal and write those crazy, lengthy articles of mine during the long flights. This issue is a good one. It is more than a one or two men show. We hope in the near future to have more authors. We are starting to publish a study on the Polish Legion by Jon R. Harrison. Jon is a recognized authority on the Polish forces during the Napoleonic period. Unfortunately, the study is too long to publish it in one issue. We are planning to spread it in several issues. Perhaps, some of you would like to bind it together and end up with a booklet or folder on that interesting subject. That can be done easily. The study is attached in such a way that it can be taken apart from the magazine without any damage. We even have punched holes for your convenience. Please let us know it you like the idea. That could become a permanent feature of our magazine. I don't have to tell you about the quality of the work done by Jon. It is just excellent. You can see that the study includes a great deal of uniform drawings and flags. All hard to get information. The cover, a lancer of the 2nd Regiment of Eclaireurs of the Imperial Guard, is the fine work of our staff artist Jeanette Danel. By the way, she is accepting commission work. It would be a nice way to show her our appreciation. Our other staff artist, Mike Gilbert, has published rules for a fantasy wargame called ARCHWORLD, available from Fantasy Games Unlimited. Once more we need articles. So many questions have been generated in, the last few issues and, yet, we have to receive answers with the exception of Don Graves answer on British sappers and pioneers. Gentlemen, if we want to keep this magazine as an "open forum" to exchange information, data etc. on the Napoleonic period, we need your participation very badly. It does not take that long to write an article. Preferably the articles should be typed, but if you don't have a typewriter well send it in your handwriting. We'll manage. Furthermore, it is the duty of everyone of us to bring up facts and data even in contradiction with what is being written here by our volunteer authors. Once more the idea is not to show that one know better than the other, but just to bring out facts. History has been distorted so much that it is difficult to find the truth. At least we can try. Here is your chance.
