I think it is a good idea to keep NEW-JAW NEWS alive and to keep in EMPIRES, EAGLES AND LIONS a section in which some of the wargame problems specific to our club can be presented. Very likely will be dealing here with rules and perhaps will present here the outline of the Napoleonic rules we are using and try to constantly improve : Also NJN special issues will be published on a time to time basis mostly for the club purposes. However will give you here the index and table of contents of the future issues of NJN. If anyone is interested will be glad to forward the issue of interest. RULES COMMITTEE I welcome Dick Ponsini idea to create a club committee to examine and decide on rules changes. I would like to give here a word of caution. I welcome changes when they are for the best interest of playability, realism and to plug existing loopholes, but I do not welcome changes that bring unnecessary complications and that do not take in con-sideration the basic game concept, the evidences that have been presented in this magazine and all the notes accumulated during our five or six years of wargaming. I also believe that no new rules should introduced until we have cleared the unbelieveable backlog of new rules and rules modifications that we have accumulated. I am the first one to agree that we need smokes rules (we have never tried the one we have) some allotment for artillery ammunition etc. but let us proceed in an orderly fashion and do first thing first. That is quite simple let us produce a basic rule book that is not 214 pages long and in which we can find quickly what we are looking for. Then perhaps we can ask the members to learn the rules and have better wargames I have asked that for the last two years but never got anywhere. I have had a load of promises but that is about all. I can not do everything. Thank you very much in advance. RULE CHANGE One can never blame anyone to twist a rule at his advantage. Our friend Tom came up with a good one and we can only congratulate him for his resourcefulness. In our last game Tom had a light infantry unit that approached 80% losses. The light company was almost intact. It certainly broke Tom's heart to see such a precious company to just vanish since we just remove from the game any unit that has 80% losses. Tom did the obvious. He just detached that company and removed the rest of the unit from the game. Congratulation once more but I believe that is against the spirit of the rule. It is fine to detach a company for detach duties for a specific task in a different area or for a specific duty but not in that manner. Very smart that Tom DeVoe.
