Computers

by that fun-loving Westphalian and
good time elder statesman Mike Gilbert

By the time you see this the summer HISTORICON 94 convention in Lancaster, Pa. will have come and gone.

Personally, I went looking for several things there this year--new figures, terrain stuff, and to see if electronics has made any headway. This came to mind because a reader had written to ask if there was anything new in Napoleonic gaming for the Apple since UMS II--hey, UNIVERSAL MILITARY SIMULATOR II? Just where has this little program been hiding? I've never seen it or hear of it even in the tons of software catalogs I get. Any help out there? UMS I was a B&W, 3-D rotating (4 different viewpoints) ancient t modern era wargame where the gamer(s) could fight historical or imaginary battles with th choices of different troop types. It had terrific effects and sounds for a big program that has t be at least five years old. I can't find my old disk. Can anyone help an old Westphalian?

No, you can't contact me on the Internet or an of those services. I know dozens of people who are on them, have friends who run a few, and you can't yet convince me I need E-mail. Unreliable as it's becoming, I can still get business done bu the (UGH) U.S. Postal system or by my fax. After all, electronic mail is a heck of a lot easier to ignore than paper letters. Besides, my friends bring me the really good stuff off the nets.
