Ral Partha and Minifig
Historical Miniatures

by Mike Gilbert

By the time you see this, it may be old news to some of you. Ral Partha has taken over the manufacturing of MiniFigs in the U.S. I don't know yet whether Rai Partha has the old MiniFigs molds or not. There is some new designing being worked in-notably in the 15mm American Civil War line. These figures are a bit on the "scrawny" and under-equipped side for me. They leave me with the feeling that the sculptor wasn't sure of himself.

Right now I can't really use MiniFigs as a known quantity to judge other figures by-just have to wait it out until I see where they're going. I'm not happy at the moment and judging by the rumors I'm hearing, I'm probably not going to be any happier.

One thing though, MiniFigs should lower its prices. There's no reason they should cost that much- and to all manufacturers I protest: Hey, $1.50 to $2.00 for one 15mm cannon???? Is this a rip-off? I think so. Come on, give us a break.

You've seen the ads, you've read the hype-- come on down to the General Sale. Yes, it's mot of the Old Glory Marshal bags. I have French # right here in my tendinitis-racked paw as I speak

This has got the coach (now you know why this is important to me) and a slew of assorted (named in many cases) Marshals, Generah Colonels, aides and hangers-on.

Yes, all the figures are well animated, sculpted great, and finely cast-what else did you expect The coach is the best I've seen cast and fit together beautifully, complete right down to a lightly wounded occupant. For all the good stuff you get here, there are some drawbacks. Yeah, the figures are the "big" scale- the guys, even scrunched over on horseback, are at least l8mm. also have a problem with the horses (starvin' nags, ack). The reason is due to the sculpting of the saddlecloths to the riders. A lot of the riders still look like they're floating on "A Horse With No Butt" (with thanks to the old rock song by Stills and Nash). Also, there is no carriage drive just outriders, and the general needs company or date. Then there are the Mameluks--and what at I going to do with four of those guys? Still worth getting though and recommended.
