Napoleonic Notes and Queries #10

Review

by Mike Gilbert

Dave Ryan of Partizan Press puts out just about everythingso he puts out, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, happy New Year to you too. For the holidays I got Napoleonic Notes and Queries No. 10. As always, this is a great little zine which is not unlike the old EE&L in content and feel. This issue's contents are: Part 2 of On the Danube (a paper delivered at a conference of the Napoleonic Association-quite entertaining and factual. The British Legionaires of Bolivar -Brit veterans forming units in the revolutions, The French Army, 1789-1815 A Bibliographical Note, Battlefield Blunders, British in St. Domingo- 1793-98, Part 2 of Wurtemberg Infantry Colors, Spanish Army Organization, Queries, miscellaneous information and book reviews, a lot of neat stuff. And speaking of book reviews-they did a review of the much praised book by John Gill, With Eagles to Glory. If you get nothing else, you need this book! The reviewer even mentions our glorious leader: "...extensive bibliography in which (step forward, Jean Lochet) is cited 'Empires, Eagles, & Lions,' which, if I may digress, is a Napoleonic reference source criminally underutilized in this country" (England). Well, that's a nice comment indeed.

Partizan Press not only carries Queries for the Renaissance, ECW, and 18th Century, and a Colonial Conquest magazine-phew. Dave also publishes Caliver Books and tons of facsimile books, etc., from the 1600s on. They carry tons of figures besides the ones that they make Matchlock Miniatures--this kid is busy.
