Editorially Speaking

Thoughts

by Jean Lochet

Mike Gilbert was very kind in preparing the above tittle for as. It is most pleasant ... Mike did not miss the opportunity to make fun of me--in spite of that ... thank you Mike...

Our last issue was very late because of delays from the Editor and also because of delays from New Jersey to Canada and to compound all that the printer was on vacation ... We are sorry about that. This issue is on time and is well balanced. Certainly the most important article in this issue is the article on the Westphalian Infantry by Mike Gilbert. Mike went wild with 4 full pages of data new to most of us on that very difficult subject. Good work Mike.

We have also to welcome and congratulate our new contributor Mr. Robert Mosher for his article on the Highlands Regiments to be continued in our next issue. John Koontz continues with his series on the French Army in 1815 and also with (as usual) very well researched article on British Skirmishing, which should provide the base for a good exchange of information. One more subject that has been ignored by many and will be very surprising to many readers ... George Nafziger covers the organization of the French infantry between 1791-1809 in great details. Tom DeVoe contributed to the series on the Background of the Napoleonic Warfare with few individuals very influencill in the development of the art of war such as Saxe, Guibert, Gribeauval etc..

The War of 1812 is also covered by Allan Ferguson. We have also one page on the Seven Years War.

In this issue, you will find 4 pages with commercial ads. Please note that has been done without cutting the number of pages used to print the articles. Our readers will be provided with adds that are of interest to most wargamers. This should provide additional revenues and prevent a price increase because of increasing cost. As long as the postal rates do not increase we should be able to hold our present price.

Our next issue will be published on time, in October, and is full of good articles. Among then we'll find a new section edited by Mike Gilbert, on Napoleonic wargame figures, and the usual READER'S FORUM with already some discussions on our newly published rules. Some of the other articles are the continuation of the article on Highland Regiments, Oudinot's Grenadiers in 1809 etc.
