In our last issue, - a special issue on Waterloo - the main topic was the article on Napoleon's state of mind during that short campaign. Our conclusion was that the Battle of Waterloo was lost before it started... Well, the main topic of this issue is once more Waterloo and we are still far from exhausting the subject. In future issues we'll still be covering some aspects of the battle, which in our opinion, should be covered. That does not mean that we are going to ignore other subjects. Recently, I received a letter from a long time reader who complained that the new EE&L does not allocate as much space to the debunking of myths as in the old EE&L. Well, that may be true, but the readership can be assured that the basic EE&L policy has not changed and that myths are and will be exposed every time a worthwhile subject is brought to our attention and/or an opportunity to do so presents itself. For instance, take a look at Leona's Corner. She does not present the French Napoleonic soldier in a very favorable light, something that most of us were not aware of! But, let me bring up a point, in order to debunk myths, we need the participation of the readership, and that participation is scarce! Well, speaking of debunking myths, in this issue we combined an article from George Nafziger on the mobility of squares that is going to stir up the readership, and the attack of the Middle Guard at Waterloo, which according to the report of General Petit was formed in squares.... See for yourself. Then, we have some interesting comments on Waterloo, by a long time reader and contributor, John Cook. His points are well taken, but Waterloo was not a question of tactics, of lines versus squares. Napoleon had already lost the battle before he started it, as soon as the Prussians appeared on his right flank. Of course there are other very interesting articles.
